Book Club Pairings – Soap Distillery

September 14, 2022 | Meal in A Glass

Extend a sensory reading experience to your shower or hand washing routine…

If it’s one thing the last couple of years have taught society, it’s to take your time washing your hands and keeping yourself clean! Why not turn it into an enjoyable experience by using a small batch soap that’s sustainable and fun?

We love selecting scented soaps that compliment your story so your thoughts can linger a little longer on your book while you lather up…

After discovering Soap Distillery years ago at the Revolution Brewing Craft Show, we knew it would make the perfect sensory pairing for a reading experience. Not only are unique booze-inspired scents delicious and intoxicating, but they’re USA MADE in Chicago by a fellow independent woman owned business – a win-win!

We instantly fell in love with Danielle’s boozy bar soaps, liquid body washes, and hand balms. Your skin never feels dry after using her products, and the scents stay present so you can keep enjoying them while you continue your daily routines (which hopefully include even more reading)…

Soap Distillery’s eco-friendly packaging and branding is sophisticated with a touch of cheeky, just like us… and the best part is, you will never have to worry about getting a hangover, unlike the cocktails or alcoholic beverages that are often paired with books or Book Club events!

We take sustainability serious here, so you’ll find most the products that we produce are plastic free. Our soap boxes are biodegradeable, and we do not use essential oils that are unsustainable to produce. Along with donating to local organizations, we make sure our products can also serve an important purpose, and a positive message to our fans and beyond.” Learn more about Soap Distillery

This Summer, we started to pair Soap Distillery’s warm-weather collection with our Beach Reads, which resulted in an utterly refreshing experience. We matched Beach Read or Book Lovers by Emily Henry with Mint Mojito Bar Soap, Taste by Stanley Tucci with Mango Lassi Bar Soap, One Italian Summer by Rebecca Serle with Limoncello Body Wash, The Island of Sea Women by Lisa See with Mai Tai Bar Soap, The Guncle by Steven Rowley with Long Island Iced Tea Bar Soap, The Edge of Summer by Viola Shipman with Watermelon Basil Collins, and our young adult feature, Hot Dog Girl by Jennifer Dugan, with Rainbow Bar Soap (Pride Month BYC donation bar)… Matches made in heaven!

We also started pairing some other SD faves with our Rugged and Hardy collection of stories for him! It was so fun matching David Grohl’s book, The Storyteller: Tales of Life and Music, with the Honey Whiskey or Beer & Cigarettes Bar Soaps or Hand Balms!

This Fall we’ll be recommending more Full Bodied – Strong and Powerful or Deep and Twisty stories and bar soaps, including Black Cake by Charmaine Wilkerson with Lavender Bitters Bar Soap and The Maid by Nita Prose with Earl Grey Bar Soap. Stay tuned for more Autumn pairings on our social media pages (Fig Bitters, Pear Cider and Stout, we’re coming for you next)

When thinking about cleanliness and gorgeous scents, there is nothing better than Soap Distillery! Cheers!

SMALL BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT: SOAP DISTILLERY, a local favorite in Chicago, IL

We’ve featured some Soap Distillery products at our last few pop-up events, and we just added a few NEW self-care pairing options to our online shop and Book Bar. The bar soaps and hand balms are the top sellers… it’s difficult to keep them on the shelves!

If you haven’t had a chance to check out our virtual Book Bar experience, now’s the time to pick out an intriguing title and one or two “garnish” parings! What a wonderful way to pamper and treat yourself this season…
